UW Medicine, MultiCare Health System, and LifePoint Health announce creation of clinically integrated network (CIN)

Embright will design and coordinate value-based care models to improve population health throughout the Pacific Northwest

SEATTLE, WA, September 12, 2019 — UW Medicine, MultiCare Health System, and LifePoint Health today announced a partnership to form a clinically integrated network (CIN), called Embright.

As a clinically integrated network in the Pacific Northwest owned by healthcare provider organizations, Embright enables the partners to develop care delivery models that will improve patient care and experience at a more affordable cost. Together, the founding organizations represent 14 hospitals, more than 6,500 providers and over 600 outpatient sites of care (as of September 2019).

Dr. Christopher Kodama will serve as Embright president and CEO. Kodama, a pediatric hospitalist who most recently served as president of MultiCare Connected Care, said the network is designed to meet the ”Quadruple Aim” in healthcare — improve quality, enhance the patient and provider experience, and make healthcare more affordable.

“We are excited to drive healthcare improvements through the creation of well-coordinated partnerships that meet the needs of our region’s employers and health plan sponsors,” said Kodama. “The result will be improved health for our communities with far greater efficiency and more sustainable economic models.”

Embright’s broad geographical reach assures that patients will have access to the full continuum of care, including preventive, primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary and post-acute care. Throughout the network, teams are also implementing evidence-based clinical protocols and care pathways, standardized processes and care management services for complex patients.

“We are exploring shared savings and shared risk models that are aligned with mutually agreed standards for the delivery of care,” said Kodama. “This will incentivize care decisions that improve value by increasing quality, while decreasing unnecessary expense.”

Embright will provide care to patients under a variety of insurance products, including commercial plans, Medicare Advantage, and Managed Medicaid products throughout the Pacific Northwest. In addition, Embright will partner with employers in the region to identify and design innovative solutions to better care for their employees.
